2 Corinthians 1:20

All God’s promises are made certain in Jesus Christ. This week’s Scripture in Motion on 2 Corinthians 1:20 offers a short, clear teaching on why our confidence rests not in vague hope, but in Christ, the One in whom God’s faithfulness is fully revealed.

📖 This Week’s Scripture

2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

Dear Friend,

Many people know the promises of God, but they are not always sure how those promises become personal, certain, and secure.

We may read about God’s faithfulness, His mercy, His presence, His peace, His forgiveness, and His salvation, and still wonder how to hold those promises with confidence. This verse gives us the answer. Second Corinthians 1:20 says that all the promises of God find their Yes in Christ. That means Jesus is not separate from God’s promises. He is the reason those promises stand firm.

This matters because our faith is not built on vague hope, positive thinking, or wishful interpretation. It is built on Jesus Christ. In Him, God has spoken clearly. In Him, God has acted decisively. In Him, we see that God keeps His word.

🌿 What This Can Look Like in Real Life

This may look like someone reading God’s promises but feeling uncertain about whether they really apply.

It may look like praying for peace while still battling fear, or hearing about forgiveness while still carrying guilt. It may look like wanting assurance that God is faithful, but struggling because life feels unstable.

Sometimes people treat the promises of God like isolated verses they are supposed to repeat until they feel better. But this verse brings us back to the center. The promises of God are not hanging in the air by themselves. They are anchored in Christ.

If a person wants to know whether God truly forgives, they must look to Christ. If they want to know whether God truly saves, they must look to Christ. If they want to know whether God will keep His word, they must look to Christ.

🌿 When Scripture Moves Through Real Life

Scripture moves through real life when we stop treating Jesus like an added part of the Christian life and recognize that He is the fulfillment of all God has promised.

It moves through real life when a person stops building hope on changing emotions and starts building it on the finished work of Christ. It takes shape when we remember that salvation is sure because Christ came, died, and rose again. Forgiveness is real because Christ bore our sin. Reconciliation with God is open because Christ made the way.

This also shapes the way we live. If God’s promises find their Yes in Christ, then our response cannot be casual. We are called to believe Him, belong to Him, and walk in obedience to Him. Jesus is not just proof that God keeps promises. He is Lord, and every promise finds its meaning in Him.

In daily life, this means that when fear rises, we return to Christ. When guilt speaks, we return to Christ. When confusion grows, we return to Christ. God’s promises are not secured by our feelings. They are secured by the Son of God.

🌿 A Gentle Reminder for Today

If you belong to Jesus, you are not standing on uncertain ground.

God has not spoken vaguely. He has spoken through His Son. What He promised about mercy, redemption, eternal life, and His faithful presence is not fragile. It is settled in Christ.

This is why we do not put our trust in ourselves. This is why we do not build our lives on shifting thoughts or circumstances. We build on Jesus. He is the Yes of God to every promise that leads us to salvation, truth, and life.

🌿 Reflection Questions

  • Have I been looking at God’s promises apart from Jesus instead of through Him?

  • In what area of my life do I need to anchor my confidence more fully in Christ?

  • How does this verse strengthen my trust in God’s faithfulness today?

🌿 A Short Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your promises are not uncertain or out of reach. Thank You that they find their Yes in Jesus Christ. Help me to build my confidence in Him and not in my feelings, circumstances, or understanding. Teach me to trust Your word more deeply, to follow Jesus more fully, and to rest in the certainty of what You have already provided through Him. In Jesus’ name, amen.
