1. Introduction: A Calling Discovered
For years, I resisted the nudge on my heart, wondering, What will people think? I tried to ignore it, but the calling only grew stronger and more pronounced. In my desperation, the Lord led me to two life-changing verses.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT) declares, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.”
Then 1 Peter 2:9 (NLT) revealed, “But you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As ministers of God, you bring others into his marvelous light.”
When I read them together, I understood my role: remove myself from the equation and let Him lead. Obedience birthed His Words Give Life, and I discovered that Jesus didn’t reserve ministry for a select few—He inaugurated a kingdom priesthood open to every believer, empowered by the Holy Spirit, defined by service, not status.
2. Biblical Foundation: A Royal Priesthood
Old Covenant Priesthood (Exodus 28–29, NLT): Only Levites served at the Tabernacle.
New Covenant Priesthood (1 Peter 2:9, NLT): “But you are a chosen people. You are royal priests…”
Jesus tore down barriers—every follower shares in His priestly ministry, called to offer spiritual “sacrifices” (worship, witness, intercession) on behalf of others.
3. Jesus, Our Great High Priest
Hebrews 4:14–16 (NLT) reminds us that Jesus sympathizes with our weaknesses and intercedes for us as our High Priest.
4. Tradition vs. Kingdom Priesthood
Many of us have been taught that only clergy or those with formal theological training are “anointed” to proclaim the gospel.
Custom & Culture: Over centuries, church structures elevated pastors and priests as the sole mouthpieces of God’s Word.
Jesus’ Teaching (Luke 4:18, NLT): “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.”
Then He sends every disciple (Luke 10:1, NLT) with authority to heal and proclaim the Kingdom.
Spirit for All (Acts 2:17–18, NLT): “I will pour out my Spirit on all people... Your sons and daughters will prophesy.”
There is no sacred caste; every Christian is anointed by Jesus Himself (1 John 2:20, NLT).
5. The Universal Commission
Matthew 28:18–20 (NLT): “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations...’ ”
Acts 1:8 (NLT): “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses...”
Ministry isn’t a spectator sport. It’s a calling to act, to serve, to speak life.
6. Overcoming “I’m Not Worthy”
Many hesitate, thinking, “I’m not educated enough… Who am I to minister?”
Romans 8:26 (NLT): “The Spirit of God is helping me... for we do not know how to pray... but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.”
2 Corinthians 3:5 (NLT): “What we have is from God, who has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant.”
God equips the called, not calls the equipped.
7. Ministry in Today’s World
Everyday Settings:
At work: pray for a stressed colleague or share a timely Scripture.
In your neighborhood: host a prayer walk or bake treats for new neighbors.
Digital Frontier:
Social media: post a short devotional, invite followers into prayer, or share a testimony.
Blogging/Podcasting: address modern challenges—anxiety, loneliness, injustice—through a biblical lens.
8. Practical Steps to Activate Your Priesthood
Pray Daily for open doors to serve.
Listen to the Spirit’s promptings and to people’s real needs.
Step Out in small acts—an encouraging text, a listening ear, a helping hand.
Equip Yourself with Scripture, a community group, and online teaching when possible.
9. Conclusion & Call to Action
Jesus didn’t build an exclusive clergy; He launched a living, inclusive priesthood that embraces every follower. Your anointing comes from Him, not from status or certificates.
Reflect: Where have you doubted your calling? How will you step out in faith this week?
Prayer: “Holy Spirit, remind me that I am anointed to minister; empower me to serve with boldness.”
If this teaching has stirred your heart, share it with someone who feels unqualified, and follow for more encouragement to live out your kingdom calling. God has anointed you—now go serve!
