A Personal Reflection on Love and Sacrifice

I didn’t fully understand the depth of Jesus’ love until I became a parent. Once I had my own children, something shifted. I started to grasp what it meant when Scripture calls us His children. The fierce, protective, unconditional love I feel for my own children opened my eyes to a truth that had always been there: God’s love for us isn’t distant or detached. It’s deeply personal.

There is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t do for my children. I would sacrifice anything for them. I would lay down my life without hesitation. And that’s when Good Friday became more than just a story in the Bible. It became real.

Jesus didn’t just die for "the world" in a vague sense. He died for me. For you. For every one of us He calls His own. Because that’s what love does.

The Cross Was Always the Plan

Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ—a day of sorrow, yet the foundation of our hope. It was not a mistake or a moment of divine defeat. It was the mission all along.

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45 (NLT)

Centuries before Jesus walked the earth, the prophet Isaiah wrote:

"But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

Every wound He bore had a purpose. Every moment of suffering was driven by love. As a parent, that hits different. He saw our need. He felt our pain. And He chose to bear it all so that we could live.

The Curtain Tore, and a New Way Began

When Jesus declared, "It is finished" (John 19:30 NLT), He wasn’t speaking in defeat. He was announcing that the debt of sin had been fully paid. The curtain in the Temple tore from top to bottom, opening the way for us to come boldly into God’s presence.

“This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” — Hebrews 10:16 (NLT)

This moment sparked a movement. The resurrection that followed turned grieving followers into bold witnesses. Christianity began not through political power, but through transformed lives. The message spread from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth: Love has overcome. Death has lost. Jesus is alive.

What Good Friday Means for Us Today

Good Friday is a personal invitation to reflect on the love of a Savior who sees you, knows you, and gave everything to bring you home.

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (NLT)

We no longer live striving for God’s approval. We live from a place of being deeply loved. Just as I could never stop loving my children, there is nothing you can do to make God stop loving you. The cross proves it.

So today, pause. Let it sink in. Jesus died for you—not out of obligation, but out of overwhelming, parental, relentless love. A love that holds nothing back.

A Prayer for Good Friday

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the cross. Thank You for loving us like children—with a love so deep and wide that You would give everything just to draw us near. Help us never to take this gift lightly. May the truth of Good Friday fill us with awe, gratitude, and renewed purpose. Let Your love shape our lives and guide our steps.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
